    I would like to find out what this contraption is.It is a ] cast iron foot pedal that has a cylinder with holes in it and maybe a wick on the top.

      Ok I did find out what it is. Its a rheostat foot pedal for a sewing machine. The wick that was in the top was actually a wire that was cut off.
