I found this lighter in my husband's drawer. He has had it for over 30 years. Does anyone know the history of a lighter like this? It appears to be silver or stainless; I believe the latter.

I'm no expert, but I've seen these being sold on a well known online auction site as an "aluminum trench lighter". Probably hand made if there are no markings on it anywhere (unless the markings wore off with age and use). Once again, I'm no expert, just my two cents.

Thank you, I will google that; aluminum; hmmm, makes me wonder. I couldn't define the metal, although I think it may be in pretty good shape for aluminum. My husband used it for years. But we never saw any markings. Thanks again, your description will be helpful!

Your right, I asked my husband, it is stainless steel. He just cannot remember where in the heck he got it or what it's history is; I looked up the Trench lighter, it doesn't look like a lot of the ones I saw on google. How do you tell if a lighter like that is worth anything; besides being worth something to people who collect them?

your lighter is a post ww2 trench style steel liftarm. its basic shape was copied from a parker beacon fancy shape lighter. it was made in a factory in north africa and is collectible.
