The box for this grabbed my attention first, and then I was delighted to find inside a complete set with a doll, wigs and accessories.
The doll appears to have porcelain head, feet and hands and a connecting body of wire. Over that is cardboard that allows the kimono to sit correctly on the figure. She has a random mop of black hair and in the box are three different wigs to make her appropriate for different ages. Her sweet little face is hand painted.
She also has a bag, umbrella, fan and a pair of geta, or flip flops.
Inside the lid of the box is a graphic to identify the different wigs, but to be honest the graphics and the wigs are a poor match so it's a bit of a guess to know which is which.
I did find another of these sets online that was noted as 1940s, but I think the set is later than that, more likely 1960s.
Kawaii!!
What a fun find, Karen! You could comb the wigs to entirely new stylings too :-)) Nah... don't. And look at those tiny geta! Very cute.
Wow very different great find
The younger girl wig is to display the nape of the neck better, something indicating virginity and attractiveness in Japan. Good find, love it.
These are great sets ! Nice Her face is most likely made of gofun ( Crushed Oyster shells ) I think your right 1950's -60's at earliest. Love her
I thought it was fun too Bijou, and so sweet. Thanks and glad you like it!
Thanks Master, interesting and different.
Asian nut that's such great information, thanks. I'm glad you liked and commented on the set!
Thanks Mani. The head etc felt hard and felt a bit like bisque porcelain but I wasn't sure. I have now read about crushed oyster shell and I'm sure you are right. Such an asset you are! Thanks too for the date guide.
Isn't she sweet Ken! Thanks for the love and comment.
Your welcome Racer :-)
You're always so fortunate to find your Japanese items with boxes Karen. And to have all the pieces... great find!
Just luck Rick. I found this in a second hand store I would normally never go to!
Thanks for the love.
So love this set, Karen!
I know I know! Thanks Katherine :)
Have come back to look at this set several times. I just love it. Gosh, you have so many wonderful things, but of them all, some really stick with me, of course the astonishing beautiful glass you sent me, the pearl kokeshi, and this doll. So blessed to share this space with you and your collections.
Thanks mate. I feel lucky sometimes, and overwhelmed with stuff at other times!
Glad you dropped in again, hope all is OK in your world (despite the Mango Mussolini).
Needless to say we are living in a vile reality show nightmare hosted by the Orange Troll, featuring among other things, on a path to nuclear war, genocidal bungling of hurricane relief, and massacres his pals are blaming on Dark State Democrats. Oh the joys. The terrifying joys.
Here in Aus we watch with horror and amazement. Then again, our own politicians are pretty horrific in their way! As you say, the joys!
