i got a very good price on this 12" piece of Hampshire Pottery vase because there is an invisible crack in it. i am confident that science is getting better and better and that invisible cracks like this will be able to be fixed at some point soon. this is a great piece of American art pottery.

Very nice on a shelf - who cares if it holds water? Excellent Arts & Crafts pottery.

I agree artfoot! i think it's even an important piece due to this sophisticated glaze. Hampshire Pottery was close to Merrimac Pottery and Marblehead too - and all of thes New England potteries did some very innovative glaze experiments with results like this one. i just discovered these recently, so was excited to find one which was within my price range. this piece looks like it's 1940s or 50s, but is actually from 1905 to 1915 - way ahead of it's time. this kind of glaze experimentation was picked up again by the Natzler's during the mid-century.

at 12" tall, this is a very large piece for Hampshire.

This is really a good piece of Arts & Crafts era pottery so I don't want to spoil your fun too much but this mottled blue was one of their standard glazes.

yeah it was, and it was their best glaze too. i just found it interesting how these new england companies all developed these sophisticated blue glazes at the same time. Grueby had one too.
