    (122 items)

    Good afternoon everyone,
Since joining CW last year reading great posts and posting some of my collectibles it has been a very fine experience learning about other collectors items and the interesting information offered in their write ups. Today I am posting number 100 and thought as trains were my very first collectible at a young age I've decided to post one of my Brass Trains. This model: Scale HO, Category Steam engine, road/route " Southern Pacific " Wheel configuration 4-8-4, Description: GS-1 NORTHERN, Importer: Sunset Models (SUNSET) Builder: Samhongsa/Korea, Year produced 1978, Quanity produced: 700

Brass models are often used for display purposes rather than model railroad operations. However, these can be made fully operational and many railroaders do use them on their model railroads. This model has everything included and is ready to operate. It is unpainted and this is how I like it. I will never operate this piece as I have other sets from different companies for this purpose. They appeal to me more for their craftsmanshift. There were some factory painted models offered for sale and some collectors will pay someone to paint their models professionally for a price of course.

    HISTORY: wiki
In the late 1950s, Japan was known for producing low cost toys and products for export. The first brass model train were born during the occupation of Japan by Allied forces. Members of allied forces saw some of the models built by various craftsman and procured photos of American steam locomotive prototype for these artisans to model. These were the early hand-built high quality brass models, built with relatively crude equipment in comparison to tools that became available later. Some people in the model railroad industry took note of what was being done and started importing these models to the USA.

The quality of Japanese models continued to improve but with an improving domestic economy, manufacturing cost also increased. Eventually, importers moved their operations to Korea for cost benefits.

You have so many items fortapache to build different scenes like a western to compliment a steam train, or Gi Joe for military and all your matchbox and other models to produce different time eras. Your comments are always appreciated.

Happy 100th anniversary. Love this train so much. I now remember that I had about
a 5 inch wind up. Painted tim :((. Thought about buying a decent train the last couple years, but no room for a display or to run. A great piece I envy !

The trains can become addictive this is for sure Phil, always wanting to expand can really demand more unavailable space. I have a 3 month old Grandson now and when I finally get to Australia will set up some of the other trains again to run and the brass as displays. Your comments are always much appreciated!!
