About a year ago I posted a similar booklet, but from 1949, 10 years after this booklet was published. That one only contained a few classes of steam locomotives, it was mostly diesels and electrics. This booklet is almost pure steam, featuring many different classes of current (1939) PRR steam locomotives, as well as freight and passenger cars. The only diesel in this booklet are the EMD SW-1 switcher and the electrics were the P-5 and the GG-1. The changes in 10 years was truly amazing, as the PRR converted from steam to diesels and electrics. 32 pages of great reading and information.
I have a book about Santa Fe and the only diesels in it are the switcher and F-Units.
The 4-4-2s may not sound impressive but having seen one in person they are. With those 80 inch drivers they could really move, they are the biggest small locomotive. Lacked a bit in tractive force though.
