Found in a tool chest full of mostly carpenter's tools. Stortz & Son is still in business in Philadelphia. I sent them these same photos but they could not identify it! Help!

Interesting marketing concept. "Let's make something that nobody has a use for and see how many idiots buy them ?"

It will be interesting to find out what it is, Strange the Co. that made it didn't know they must have canned all the old timers and smart people like most of our companies, I would think it was used to tuck material but can't figure what the eyelet would have been for.

blunderbuss2 - Yes, and to eventually drive people like us crazy.

PoliticalPinbacks - The eyelet throws me off too. I thought it might have been added to hang the tool for display, but why would it be added into the brass instead of the wood?

bobby725 - Good idea and I thought of that too, but after researching cobbler tools have not found anything similar yet.

This one is a plasterers/cement workers "Radius Tool" (or inside radius tool) - an identical model to this Stortz & Son offering can be seen in Costello's 1924 catalogue (Archive) here:

      Page 38 of 56 - I hope this helps

Correction - page 37 not 38 - but I think the link brings you to the correct page anyhow.
