This is my "new" doll. She is a split head, wax over papier-mâché from England. I've named her May, after her original owner, as she came with a bit of provenance. She is 26" and in her original clothing and shoes although the ribbons on the shoes were added at a later date. I love her so much. I'd been looking at her for a long time and decided I needed her!
May has a wax over papier-mâché shoulder plate, cloth body and partial leather arms. She wears two petticoats, one with three hoops, and split drawers under her petticoats and dress. Isn't she wonderful? Thank you for looking!
Wow! I bet I know who's going to love, love this doll too! And though I'm not into dolls, I do have to say she's pretty darn cool!

Oh she wonderful ! What a Great treat to have her and her original clothes is just a fantastic bonus and body , Don't you love how many layers they wore under a dress :-)

Thank you so much, Manikin! So glad you like her! I've read where they sometimes wore six layers/petticoats under their dresses!
Can you imagine wearing that many layers of clothes as the women of the day also did ?
I can only imagine! It was sure a way for women to be kept subordinated as they were unable to do much of anything in all those layers.
