When going through my Mom's home after she passed, this plate was separate from her China. On the back is a copy of an obituary for an Ada Higginbotham who passed in 1930. She was married to a prominent businessman in Texas who was also a veteran of the Civil War (this is mentioned in her obituary). There is a piece of masking tape holding the obituary on the plate that has the date 'November 25, 1923' written on it.
I'm unsure if this was the date that the plate passed into my family line or perhaps was the date that Ada received it. We gently raised the tape to see if there was a mark on the bottom and there was. I'm going through my parent's genealogy books in the next week or two to trace to see if Ada was an ancestor of ours or if it was given to my Mom's family line in Texas as her grandfather was a well-known Baptist circuit riding preacher who also helped the founder of Buckner Children's Orphanage in Dallas (about a decade ago my Mom traveled there and found several documents in their library about my grandfather.
I'm guessing this was a 'decorative' plate as opposed to a piece from a "set" but do not know for sure. I actually find holding something that is that old and trying to puzzle out my family history and finding out a lot of information about the Higginbothams is fascinating.
It's a beautiful plate and would have been for display only.
Thomas is a quality brand and the prunus design is beautiful.
I had a quick look around and this may be a guide:
