This antique rocking chair belonged to a lady friend of the family, who left it to my father before she died.
She used to say that the rocking chair belonged to General Fructuoso Rivera, a procer of our country (Uruguay) who lived between 1784 and 1854 (see https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fructuoso_Rivera).
According to an antiquarian, it is a unique piece, hand-carved in the 18th century in Germany.
The gold color painting is not original, neither is the upholstery.
I really want to know more! :)

Hello: This is a Rocking Chair for Salon by Jacob & Josef John around 1885. It is possible to see the model in the 1885 catalogue. A Good historicist Rocking Chair.

Hi @Espaicorbat! Thanks for throwing some light over this item.
I´ll look for the typical stamp on the rocking chair more carefully...
      regards
