After Mom passed in March of this year, I inherited all of hers and her Mother's jewelry. There is a bit of fine jewelry, albeit, inexpensive fine jewelry but more fascinating is the large amount of costume jewelry. 90% of the costume jewelry belonged to my Grandmother.
This is an unusual "set". No markings. She had a tiny neck it seems. It's very interesting to look at. The earrings are missing whatever attached them to ears - but based on the tiny 'holes' at the top of the earrings, it seems to me whatever is missing would have been for someone with pierced ears (i.e. not clip ons). If that supposition is true, then I'd say the set had to belong to my Mom, not my Grandmother. I'm stumped on sub-category to choose...
I magnified with phone and could not find a mark. I'm amused by thinking of what my Mom could have worn that she would have paired this with. Mom was beautiful but never thought she was and always said she was gawky and awkward looking all her life. I never could convince her she was one of the most naturally pretty person I had ever met - as lovely as she was on outside, she was gorgeously radiant on the inside!
Today I'm missing her alot...I hope I don't get in trouble for this but I'm attaching a pic of her wearing a pearl necklace in her high school graduation photo (I have the necklace thankfully). I think the set pictured would have been stunning on her.
valentino97 - thank you very much...I wish we could have convinced her but those who know/see her know the truth.
Wow..80's? I was a teen in late 80's...I could see ME having perhaps worn it maybe to a Toga party or with some other weird item of clothing (I'm sure with shoulder pads). My Mom would have been in early 50's by mid 80's so that is still a definite possibility.
Very pretty lady! Just as an example, this could have HGE on it which would mean Heavy Gold Electroplate and a magnet may not stick to it. I'll stop, I think I'm probably confusing you more...
shareurpassion,
Thank you! I actually follow what you mean about the magnet. No one can confuse as much as how many places I found jewelry in..in my Mom's house when we were cleaning it up. I also never imagined that between her and her Mom, that they had SO MUCH costume jewelry. It may not be as much as the norm would have been for certain women, but both of these women tended to be very very financially conservative although I do know my grandmother indulged in "smalls"
She is a natural beauty; what a wonderful photo. We all love photos here on CW as it gives meaning to the things we are looking at.
I don't know much about jewellery (I've learnt a bit here but am a noob) but I do remember pieces like this in the 80s.
