I've always thought this clear glass piece was just a martini pitcher, [stirred, not shaken?!] likely from the 50's or 60's when cocktails were fashionable. (and people actually just trusted themselves and common sense to enjoy them...) It is a little over 10" tall and a little under 4" across and has no markings on it, though there are one or two 'flaws' in the glass itself. (I don't know what the weird 'ripples' that appear in the flash pics are...they only appear in the camera flash, not in real life)
ANYWAYS...THIS AFTERNOON...astrohungaro posts pics of a neat pink thing called a "TZARINA jug. Nanny Still, 1960's" -- and appearing alongside it in one pic is what looks for all the world like my lowly 'pitcher', but in transparent yellow glass instead of clear.

And I don't have the *slightest* clue what the terms "TZARINA" or "Nanny Still" mean...??? <headdesk>
So until I have the time to go googling -- would anybody care to share a quick clue, please? (or good website to check out, or whatever??) Is this thing possibly more interesting (valuable?) than I've ever known??
Nanny Still was a renown designer for the glass house Riihimaen Lasi Oy at Riihimaki in Finland. Tzarina was one of her series, but she did many more, including Pompadour, Grapponia, Harlekiini, Pagoda - so many and all awesome!
Her work was very influential and many other companies made items similar in style. I don't think this is one of hers, just one made in her style. Great style it is too!
THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU racer4four -- now I've got plenty of info to go off looking for/learning about! :-) Gotta admit I'd be surprised if it is 'genuine' too, but I DO like it anyway...one of these days its gonna look just fine on a glass shelf in my 'home bar'. ;-)
Thanks also to fortapache and PhilDMorris for the loves!
