Hair Padded Hand Carved Chair

Does anyone have a clue as to the origin of this hand carved chair found in a home built in 1800 in Mt. Vernon, Maine? Looks to have hair/straw mix padding and had 2 layers of a blue velvet-like material on top of the padding topped with a red pattern upholstery (which may or may not have been there during original construction). Such an interesting piece! I'd love any ideas, thoughts, info anyone may have.
