This is an old blanket I found in a basement. I know it needs resto but I'm curious what vintage it is and any other information for it. Most of the blanket is in tact but there are some in unraveling and a hole. Is it worth restoring or just keep it like it is. Thanks.

CanyonRoad will see this and he will comment , look to me very old and Native American, but I am not in this domain, so this is just a thought.
I will not touched until you know more, if it's very old this as to be done by a professional.

      Regards
      Alan

I think this is a third phase chief blanket from around 1900-1920. I also have one and that is what I was told.

I have had a couple rugs cleaned and repaired. A would send your photos to a couple of repair shops for an evaluation. It may be very well worth it.

Hi. Really nice blanket! I am not an expert but it might be valuable enough to make the investment to get it repaired. I am commenting here becuase I love this textile but also because I am wondering if anyone responds with comments on this site? It has been 3 years since anyone commented on this beautiful piece. Is this site dead? Thank you and good luck with your beautiful textile.

Thanks... I seem to think so too.. possibly the millennials have taken over and nobody cares.. :( It’s gonna cost a few $$$ to restore.. one day I’ll put some time into it.. still it’s a beautiful work of art.

I can tell you the value because I have the same one. I had mine appraised. Mine has some condition issues too because I found it in a rafter in our cottage. It was in a plastic bag. It was valued at $2800-$3000. Do you know restoration costs?
    10. charlie1968 charlie1968, 5 years ago
That about what it’s gonna cost possibly more.. you need a pro to look at it.. it all depends if it’s early or a late phase blanket or 20th century that’s where the justification in doing a resto makes sense... you need to google it up. Hope this helps..

I forgot to say this one is a early 3rd 1860’s or transitional from 2 to 3rd.. based on my reasearch.. ...

how do you tell a man's blanket of this type from a female's blanket of this type? i thought the extra adornments like the diamonds signified a woman's blanket?
    14. charlie1968 charlie1968, 5 years ago
Men’s are larger strips and larger size women’s are small stripes and size.. this one has huge white and red with infill of diamonds and smaller stripes on a larger weave.
