I found this jar in some stuff I purchased at an Estate Auction. It measures approximately 2 1/2 inches high and has a diameter of 1 3/4 inches on the bottom. The lid has a diameter of 1 1/2 inches. the lid has a hole in the center and has HANDY GUM embossed on the lid. I have tried to figure out what it's use was. I have not been able to find another. It also has lots of air bubbles in the glass!
Any help would be very much appreciated!!!

Just a guess, a small glue jar. Originally a brush or even just a stick in the center of the cap as a applicator.

Also could have been an alcohol lamp/burner.

Gum arabic is used primarily in the food industry as a stabilizer. It is edible and . Gum arabic is a key ingredient in traditional old lithography and is used in printing, paint production, glue, cosmetics and various industrial applications, including viscosity control in inks and in textile industries, though less expensive materials compete with it for many of these roles. It is also used in Drinks in Eastern countries, and it is made from the sticky sap of trees.
