This is a small but very pretty bud vase that I know nothing about. I bought this when I saw my other piece of pottery. It is either black or very dark brown with green stripes. It kind of resembles a watermelon. It is 7" x 3.25". The bottom has either numbers on it or the abbreviation of August. Do not know if the next word is Italy, or someone's name. Again, will someone please help me with this item. Thank you.

Love it. The colors are like watermelon...and then again, could be a squash!

Yes, shaped like a squash and colors of a watermelon.

      I'm certain it says "Italy".

There's an Italian pottery expert, and author on the subject, who frequents another pottery forum. I'm not sure I can post a link to the forum here, but I'd be happy to repost with your pictures there - with your permission. I can post his response back here.

Walter wasn't able to identify it either - sorry. I'll keep checking the post on the other forum periodically and post here should something come up.
