I found this beautiful necklace and bracelet at a local thrift shop. The area is a retirement community and has been since the 40s. I love thrift shopping in this area as I am always looking for anything vintage, retro, mid-century modern, etc. These items remind me of my mother and grandmother's era and I suppose that it is in my blood. They make me feel nostalgic!
I love Bakelite jewelry and have quite a few pieces but I've never seen anything like these pieces. Material is amber in color with white marbling. Beads measure approx. .675" L x .5" W. Beads are strung and they fasten together with a screw embedded in the end beads (see photos). The necklace has an extension that can also be worn as a bracelet.
That makes two of us who have never seen that kind of bead. Are they cold like glass or warm like Lucite/plastic?
The beads are not glass. They appear to be some type of plastic or lucite... maybe Bakelite!
I do not know what this is, it doesn't look like any bakelite I have seen. But if you do the tests for bakelite you will know if it is or not. My guess is that it is not bakelite. It's anyway a very interesting necklace!
