Hello CW friends, I'm back having spent some time in the U.K.

People who regularly visit my page would know that I was off to visit Newark antique fair in Nottinghamshire. I was there for 2 days searching for those elusive pieces. The first day after walking for 8 hours I was disappointed but the second day made up for it.

Jewels1900 I saw 2 Liberty & co boxes with the enameling by Charles Varley, both signed by him. They were absolutely gorgeous but way out of my price range, I did do some bartering on one of the silver boxes and managed to get him down to 1800 pounds he was asking 4 thousand pounds for the other box.

This brooch immediately caught my attention after doing some bartering I think I got a decent price. I feel with the opals and silver art and craft work this brooch could be Australian. I've done some research and I haven't come across anything quite like it. I think the other stones could be jade cabs and as you can see the brooch as a C clasp, there are no markings but it does test for high grade silver.

    Many thanks for looking

Hi vintage48, thank you so much for your comment, yes it does look unique I've been looking online as yet I've found nothing like it. I'm thinking with the C clasp it might be early art and crafts.

Very Art Nouveau. Opals were imported into the UK to set into jewellery. It looks Brit to me. Its beautiful!

Hi lizzycbw, thanks for your comment, I know the British art and craft movement used opals. I do agree that the brooch is from the art nouveau era, I have looked online but can't find anything similar. The silver work is distinctive, I was wondering Artificer Guild, that is purely a guess.
