Tell a friend about the 1960's Comical Print "Surrender Lee to Grant At Appomattox Court page on Collectors Weekly...
I hope I can shed some light on this print, “The Surrender” Grant surrendering to Lee. We have had this print hanging in our home since the early 60’s (probably 1960). I do not know the artist but assume he was local.
My father was the lithographer for American Lithograph in Atlanta. The company printed these for the Coca Cola Company as gifts to their executives. Dad met with the artist to discuss the elements of this job. When the job was complete Coca Cola came and destroyed all prints other than those delivered to Coca Cola. My father had an original print that he needed to reproduce the correct colors and settings in his work area. When he brought it home it was already mounted on a canvas.
American Lithograph, in Atlanta, ONLY printed Coca Cola items (there was a family connection of owner, Mr. Martin, to the Woodruff family). Tbyrd
