Hi - this is another of my car boot sale finds. I really like this riviere necklace and think it is from the art deco period but it could be older. It is not marked as far as I can see but it is silver and very well made and solid. The stones have been tested on an electronic gem tester and are much harder than glass so I assume they are rock crystal.
It is 17 inches long and quite heavy (41 grams). The stones are held in the settings by 3 claws on the long sides and 2 on the shorter sided. There are 19 stones and they are approx 15mm x 10mm and have a slightly graphite tone although they are clear.
If anyone can tell me anything about the likely country of origin and age of this piece I would appreciate it. I would also like to know if anyone has any clues about who the maker might be.

Not possible to name a maker without maker's marks. I would hazard a guess on location and say it's probably European in origin. It's just gorgeous!!

Thank you Efesgirl! I just hope there are some experts out there who might have a clue going by the way it's made. There are some marks but they may just be from the way the silver has been cast - I need to get someone with better eyesight to have a close look!

The best thing is to get a jewelers loupe. Magnifies by 10x, you won't need more than that, it just takes a minute to get used to. This does look very art deco to me too and each link here is hand made. Sometimes I feel like I'm gonna get crossed eyed looking so hard, then one day...there it is! Makes you wonder why you missed it!

I am going to get a better loupe today! And thank you, I do think the piece looks hand made and feels very robust (and well made) - these type of vintage/antique necklaces are very fashionable just now because of Anna Wintour (Vogue editor in chief).

I have several sets. They are from the Deco Era. Mine are signed Sterling. I think when it signed that way it is probably British. Although many pieces of jewelry from the war era were made of silver. Rock Crystal most likely if it it silver

Thank you zeldalee! Sorry for the long delay in replying. I think a lot of vintage jewellery from the USA was also stamped STERLING.
I also have some genuine antique English Vauxhall glass jewellery and some Czech mirror back cut glass pieces that most people seem to refer to as Vauxhall but it isn't.
The piece in the photos above is definitely silver and rock crystal or quartz as it tests almost (just a notch lower on the scale) as hard as diamond on my gem tester.
