Photo #1--Fair condition tin type shows baby in Civil War Era clothing, sitiing up--not alone but in the lap of an African-American "nanny". Her face is made all black with ink or adjusted in process and she is covered with a black cloth. I find this just troublesome and now this would be so racest. And I am wondering if this photo was taken in the South. I'll bet the baby and her nanny loved each-other well. It could be this was taken just before the Civil War.

I know MANY photos of babes were taken with a covered obscured sitter, but the good thing about this photo is "Nanny" made herself known by getting her arm out, and we plainly see her black hand!!
It seems odd, that with the price of photos reasonably priced that a family wouldn't want a photo of a caretaker to remember her by. Or that a mother would want to be obscured with her baby!. Puzzles me.
This is some photo--the obvious and clumsy attempt at blotting someone out; does not set well with me.
Photo #2 Back of tintype.Very rusted. With some bends.. etc.
