Wow, at least this had the maker mark and a Sterling mark/stamp.

I could not tell that there was any detail on the small cross so I was quite amazed at what my phone magnifier showed me. It's small and lovely.

I looked up Simmons and know he started in 1885. I saw on the site y'all referred me to only 2 photo examples his marks so am not sure how old this necklace would date back to. The one that appears to be an exact match with the one in my pics above was the 1st one listed.

This necklace was a very pleasant surprise!

Your necklace is fine jewelry. It is 925 parts out of 1000 of pure silver. The other 25% is likely to be made of copper or another alloy. Any piece of jewelry made of a precious metal - gold, silver, platinum - is not costume jewelry. This does not apply to costume pieces which are plated. The percentage of the precious metal used is not a factor. Costume jewelry isn't made from precious metals.
You can use metal polish on silver and gold items. Don't use liquid polish on plated or other costume items. A silver polishing cloth will also shine up your gold and silver and plated items.

Can I adopt you as a sister, Efesgirl? LOL. Thank you for clarification on type of jewelry to class this is and the info on silver. Also appreciate the info on cleaning!
