Today I was lucky to come across an old secretary or butler's desk that was left by the roadside in Burlington, ON. As I picked it up another driver stopped and asked me to show them the piece because they too were interested, and lamented that I had gotten to it first.
The piece has missing pulls but is otherwise in seemingly good condition (I think) and interests me regardless of value. That said, I love to know the story behind my pieces and have not been able to find anything similar online.
I am guessing that this piece is not yet an antique but have included a few photos that might be helpful in dating.
The 2 large drawers have dovetail fittings at the rear that are uniform and a few cm apart, my research so far suggests that this rules out its being crafted before the 1900's.
I have so far only been able to find one identifying marking that is stamped in and only includes numbers, perhaps only partial at that. See attached photo for details.
Inside the top fold down drawer is a small organization area for letters etc and two small drawers with seemingly original pulls.
