this picture remains one of our family mysteries. It was awarded to my great uncle George Yeoman as a Mosquito Flat Victoria school prize in December 1870. The family were miners on the goldfields. The picture is called Das Sehen, The Sight, La Vue. I think the small print above "The Sight" reads "Druck u Verlag v Ed.Gust May in Frankfurt dM". I cannot read German so I have no idea what it says. It is signed by his teacher. Can anyone tell me anything about this picture? Is it an original or a print? We always thought it was an unusual award for a small school boy.
It is translated into: Print and publish by Ed.Gust May in Frankfurt. The firm Eduard Gustav May (later May & Wirsing and E. G. May Söhne) was an Art Publisher from 1845-1914 in Frankfurt, Germany and one of the leading producers of popular prints.
