This Victorian glass lamp is another piece which is something of a mystery. I purchased it some years ago, primarily due to it being a fine example of rainbow spatter glass - I don't know much about lamps (they look great, but do take up a lot of space, so not really trying to get a collection of them going!). The dealer said that it was a candle lamp - it has a spring loaded mechanism, which apparently raised the inserted candle as it burnt down. I don't know if this is correct, so if anyone out there knows more about this type of lamp, your input would be much appreciated! All I know is that I've not seen anything else quite like it in my collecting adventures.
It measures 33.5 cm tall, & 12.5 cm across the brass base. The glass is cased - probably white inside, with the next layer being the rainbow spatter, covered by a clear outer layer. It has a moulded swirl pattern.
It came with a clear shade, but it doesn't sit properly or look right, so I left it out of the photos, as it probably isn't original.
Bohemian perhaps?
There are special candles for the auto-feeding lamps. Regular candles drip wax down the sides. I had several of these in that old great-house I owned in St Eustatius, Neth. Antilles.
Many thanks, blunderbuss2 for the information - I was wondering about that, too! The dealer I bought it from used to live in Jamaica, & that is where he acquired it...from a woman who was joining a convent.
love the swirls the the twist the purpose great stuff !!!!!!!! IronLace

Beautiful and as you say it's very different, I've not seen anything like it either.
Thanks so much, Vintagefran!
