I'm hoping that someone can help me with info about this doll that my wife found among her mom's treasures while going through storage.
After a quick scroll through Show and Tell, it seems this is a German doll from around turn of century? I couldn't find any markings. Condition looks good, but her left hand is broken off.
I will appreciate any and all input.

Hi Dave :-) your China doll is called a Flat top made in Germany . These dolls have been named over the years by their hairstyles and also helps date them since their hardo's often represented the hair style of the time period they were produced . Most of the dolls were never marked by makers and is purely a guess in most cases who made them . There are some exceptions to being marked or having distinct facial features that are consistent with a doll maker . Your doll dates around 1860's .
Like coca cola items these china dolls are often found as reproductions and the blank molds were sold by ceramic stores and so many people are fooled by them . Yours is authentic and wonderful !

I can not see the detail real well Dave but the clothes are definitely very old . Most clothes during this time period were handmade by owner , the style is right for era of doll . She should have layers of under slips and pantaloons . I hope it is original body often they were replaced because made of cloth they wore out . The heads are usually just glued to top of body and could become loose with old glue be sure if she ever undress's her she holds on to that head . PS She can clean face off with water and dry were it is brown safe to do . Think of it like a china dinner plate that you can wash off . I imagine it may have belong to a great Grandmother ? How tall is doll ? Looks like a nice cabinet size .

8-1/4" tall. Yep, an underskirt and ?bloomers? (like pants that come down to just below the knee). Thank you again. One other question: Susan's mom talked about a "cornhusk" doll. We figured this is it, but now are wondering. Do you think this could mistakenly have been referred to as a cornhusk doll? Or should we keep digging?!?!
Mani, the note we found said it belonged to her great-grandmother Ella who died in the 1940's, so that time period must be about right. Civil War era, thereabouts.
No this would not be the corn husk doll ----keep diggin :-)
Yes these came out end of Civil war appx. The flat top china was I believe just after civil war and and many were sold she is one more often found than some other China dolls . She is a great size for displaying and a girl could easily carry her since the large china dolls were very top heavy and hard to hold .
