Hand made Maritime sewing rocker (I think)

I really don't know anything about this chair except that it was handcrafted and was brought in from Mount Allison University......not sure if it was made there or was just there for a period.
I would like to get any information about it at all....so any help would be appreciated. I just love it and purchased it at an estate auction.
