These photos are from my trip to the UK in 2003. If you haven't visited, I can highly recommend the Victoria & Albert Museum's Glass Gallery - it is truly stunning & a real treat for the glass enthusiast. This is just a small taste of what was on display. I hope I can go back some day! The first photo shows some fine examples of English fancy glass from the Victorian era. The second image shows some Victorian epergnes, the third, a fabulous plethora of all kinds of glass - including a shelf of iridescent pieces, & the final image is of "Venetian style" glass, including fine French paperweights from the classic period of the 19th century.

      Great pics!!

If I am not mistaken the basket in the first pic is Bohemian, and in a Welz decor I refer to as "Spiral Feather". The same décor is shown in Truitt I as Welz, but on a different shape.

The earliest known records of Welz production being imported to the UK, US and Australia are from the 1880's.

Here is a page showing the décor. The last image is the example shown in Truitt. The middle example is from my collection, and the first example is a shape seen in at least one other known Welz décor.

Many thanks - & very interesting to find out more about this unusual decor - it is not a common one, & like the folks at the V&A, I assumed it was a variation on one of the Northwood pull - up patterns. I would definitely like an example for my collection, so hopefully one turns up sometime...
