Picked this up for $5! Can anyone help with info?

I'm a complete amateur at antiques but at my local habitat for humanity store I got this for $5! There is a similar couch I'm trying to save $90 for. I've read look at carvings and I see that one side the carvings look more jagged and the other side more rounded perhaps meaning hand carved? And the nails look very old. Any idea to what period this rocker is from and is it Oak would be so greatly appreciated!
