    Hi friends,
I would like to hear your opinion on these earrings ( vintage fair find from this weekend). Unmarked beauties. I would say that the central (blue) stone is glass, red stones look like plastic to me. I tested them with Simichrome for the peace of my soul, but they are not bakelite - and the same rich, red color stays on the cotton swab.
Art deco, or "in art deco style"? I somehow have the feeling that they are newer, also their condition is very good except some minor dirt.
But I would like to hear your opinion.

      Hi,

What's the cotton bud? I'd say definitely vintage, and they do look deco. Are you sure the blue material is glass - it's marbled as, I think is the red round piece. What material are the two ivory coloured pieces on each side of the blue?

The photos are quite dark, I wonder could you replace them with some that are brighter? That would be great.

Hi Gillian :DDD sorry, my lame english - cotton swabs? How do you guys call it, a cotton swab?
No, I am not sure the blue stone is glass, but it looks cold to the touch, colder than the red stones. The "ivory colored pieces" - that is metal.
I would do a new set of photos.

Ah - now I understand. Cotton swab, or cotton bud, or a Q-tip is more likely in North America - the Q stands for Quality. The red colour stays on the Q-tip. The 'tinypics' are great - a really good way to take photos.

I don't know what plastic materials' colour would bleed onto a Qtip - did that happen when you used the simichrome? If anything that sounds like paint.

I'm sorry not to have been more help - you could tap a plastic bead, what does it sound like? Then do the same with glass stone or a drinking glass (not crystal) and see what that sounds like.

I think Efesgirl will know more.

Thank you! Yep, that happened, when I used the Simichrome.
The tap sound is different. As said, I would say that the blue stone is glass and the red ones are plastic.

Costume jewelry isn't really my area of knowledge. These do have a sort of architectural appearance. The hole in the earring back is diamond shaped rather than round, so slip on cushions would be used. They aren't any earlier than 1930 because there were no paddle back earrings before that time.
That's about all I can tell you. :-))))))

Thank you Efesgirl a lot, as always! I didnt know about the earring hole.

I thought the same, the earrings have some architectural look in them.

That red looks like Bakelite! Like the necklace piece Valentino made for me. Where is she at? haha I will have to ask her to come look at these, she's gonna love them too! She'll know what they are.

Valentino97, thank you! Come to think of it, red, blue, and "white" - indeed, Slovakia flag colors!
I dont know what to think of this chemical reaction, cheap coloring?

      Peasejean55 - thank you!
You are right - checked online right now! For example this bracelet, they could be worn together as a set:
