This is an unusual occupational photograph from the 1880s- 90s.
The cabinet card shows a druggist mixing up some concoction-- a collection of bottles and a mortar and pestle are visible on the table.
I may try some blow ups later of the bottles as I have been able to pull a photographer and camera reflection out of one in the past.

Love this old photograph. It reminds me of gathering all sorts of interesting bottles and labware to stage promo shots for the chemistry department's section in the university catalog. I'm in a few staged photos doing what this guy is doing. It appears this is staged with all the different types of labware on a small work area. I know as a formulations chemist - I need a little more elbow room and not to mention safety goggles :) Thank You for Posting!

Nice image. Makes me wonder what pocket watch he is carrying in his vest pocket. By the impression in image #4, I would bet it is an 18 size watch.

Scott, there is a label on the bottle below the loop of the chain. There is also a bulge in his vest pocket where you can see a partial outline of a pocket watch attached to the end of his chain inside the pocket. The opposite end of the chain is secured by a T-Bar in the bottom button-hole of his vest.
