This is a lead chess set made in England during WWII. One may think lead would be needed for ammunition but most was steel core. Lead would foul the barrel plus possibly banned via Geneva Convention I am not sure on that one.
This is a portable chess set. The box is 4 1/2" across so would fit in a coat pocket. No sign of a chess board I suppose one could just draw one.
I myself am not a big fan of chess. Takes too much concentration, my mind likes to wander plus I don't really care if I capture someone's king or not. Also every time I do play they know that thing where they can win in seven moves and are quite pleased with them selves after their great victory. All good for me as we can watch cartoons are something.
Back to the set it is nice looking set, looks a bit older than 1940s but 1940s it is.

Thank you very much Thomas. If don't mind a rather poor game of chess I would be happy to oblige. I do know how to move the pieces.

I'm with you Fort. The sooner the game is over, the sooner I can do something else.
Thank you very much racer4four. We could play some really bad chess.
