I was very lucky with this brooch it is another piece I bought from Newark. It was lying with other pieces it was in the bargain section, I recognized it straight away, Bernard Instone, I did a bit of bartering with the seller and we agreed a price. After I'd paid I and looked at the brooch and found B.I I told the seller who it was, he laughed and said well done.
He told me that people bring him sacks of silver for scrap value, one time he found 5 Charles Horner necklaces all in very good condition, in the same sack. Just goes to show, people really done have a clue of the value of pieces they throw away, sad.
The reason I knew this brooch was Bernard Instone is that one of my silver caddy spoons which is on CW has a similar pattern.
Many thanks for looking.

This caddy spoon as a similar pattern to this brooch.
This is wonderful. The relief work is so special. Well done Jean!
What a great time you must have had at Newark......so many treasures!
Hi Karen, yes the relief is excellent, have you bought any of Bernard Instone's work recently? As always your comments are always welcomed.
Hi Judy, I loved every minute of it, its experience I'd like to repeat in the future. The fair itself is enormous and it takes 2 days to get around the stalls. There are stalls indoors and outdoors, luckily it didn't rain which was a blessing. I did buy quite a few pieces, I would have loved to have bought others but they were way out of my price bracket. Thanks for popping by :-)))
That's a good size brooch too! Good thing the dealer had a good sense of humor! It amazes me how little scrap silver is worth, just doesn't seem to make sense at all.
Hi shareurpassion, yes it is a large brooch and heavy. I found most of the sellers were very agreeable and willing to talk and pass on their information which was great. I do agree with you that I would think silver would be worth very little in scrap value at the moment, but if they have a couple of antique pieces of jewellery it would be worth it for them.
Many thanks
