Hi, when my mother passed away I was given a doll that my mother said was her grandmothers. I know exactly very little about dolls. Can anyone help identify this doll. I would like the history of origin and possibly the value. It is approximately 15" in height, it is made out of really soft white leather (Except the hands and head). The eyes close and open depending on the angle of the doll. The hair is horse type hair but I am not 100% sure on that but it isn't fake or manufactured. That is about what I know. Again, any help would be awesome. Also, there are no marking anywhere I can see. I would rather not pull off her hair to see but can if that is the only way.
The doll had a lot of damage on her dress so we stored that dress and put a new on her so she could be displayed.
Hi your German made bisque doll can not be identified without seeing mark. They were all marked . It would help to photo a doll nude to see body construction also . She has a common dolly face so there is nothing unique in features that points to any company . Some dolls have character faces with facial expressions and we can many times ID doll by the look . If it is that important to know who made her you will have to look under hairline or leather on shoulder plate . Her hair is not horse hair they used human hair or mohair . Yours looks like from photo mohair but I am not sure that she is wearing original wig . Very nice keepsake :-) I can not see body and hands and feet to see if replaced either . Please photo her nude ok .
I added two pictures. My mothers friend thinks it is a Simon & Halbig 15" because of all the similar features.
That would be a wild guess there is no way to go by similarities on a dolly face bisque doll . She what is called a turned shoulder head . As you can see she is not looking straight forward . The body is German and not quality that S&H used . Her wig looks fragile at this point and I would not try to raise it up as I can see the fabric under hair and it cold tear . I would say without ruining her hair she can not be attributed to any particular German Co. Dates 1890-1920's era . Thank you for adding extra photo's so I could be sure she was on original kid leather body .
I found a marking that looks to be a cursive F on the back of her neck. Does that help at all?
That looks like a 7 to me they used the line on 7's like that. Take a pencil and gntly rub lead on it to darken it . My BIG concern it that the face paint is not right the eyebrows and eyelashes are not original . I actually was going to ask for a close up because the lashes looked wrong but both are . Looks like someone painted them on and not a professional . I have thousands of Bisque dolls and never eyebrows like that that ? This is perplexing what was done to her . The 7 would not help there are other marks on her like a logo . What is the black above 7 ? Does she have a cork pate ?
Whatever and whoever painted them it should wash off . I use Napa Soap to clean bisque dolls .
I have to do some studying on her and that painting on face . In meantime try and see if that is not a 7 in style as not to confuse it with a 1 .
I have no idea what happened to her but someone repainted her face with no doubt and ruined her unless it comes off .
