I found this rocking chair at a Hospice Thrift Shop. Being unsure if it was worth refinishing and re upholstery I sent a pic of it to my favorite woodshop and he said he thought so and dated it about early 1900's. Two local antique dealers thought it is a Jacobean. I've not found any exact matches to all the details and any that are similar don't seem to be dated either. So I'm praying that I will not regret refinishing and re upholstery.....

An original Jacobean should have mortise and tenon joints that are pegged together. I don't happen to see that in the photo's. Many times a dealer will say it is Jacobean or Stickley or Shaker when they should add the word "style" if the piece isn't marked. Jacobean style means someone intended to copy the original design and more often the unmarked item was made by a local craftsman or smaller maker.
