Great heavy- weight Elephant planter. Make a good paperweight at
1 pound 4 oz. He's 7" wide. 3 1/2 " tall.
I've had no luck identifying him. I thought it might be Frankoma pottery. Of course I viewed 100's & 100's of 'images' on Google. Nothing came up. I love the matt finish and the mottled blue. He's not as bright as the picture. More of a Dutch blue. More like the last pic. Who Make him? Anyone know?
Niloak Pottery, an uncommon form.
Note the raised "N" on one of his feet, they used that mark on smaller or unusually shaped pieces.
I looked carefully, there's no "N" on any of the feet. Possible that some never got marked?
Looks like a raised N on the front 'top' leg in your pic? Are you sure?
to art.pottery. I looked more closely with a mag. glass. I saw all sorts of letters but like my bathroom linoleum I can find all kinds of animals if I look hard.
I think it's a trick of the mind & eye. HOWEVER, I took 2 closeups. I still don't see any N and there doesn't appear to be any raised letter. Are you still seeing an "N"? OK, ....now how do I upload those 2 pictures? Can I re list this with the new pic's and remove two of the ones I originally used, I wonder
I could have been unmarked or marked with a sticker. I did an image search for Niloak elephant and didn't find the form. So went to the books, it's shown in Chipmans Niloak text, 2nd ed., on page 231. Glaze is "Ozark Blue"

With all the images of elephants especially from this company, if none could be found I guess I could consider this as 'rare' in form. Patricia
