The Canadian Football League has always been a smaller collector market, NHL cards, plastic coins were of much more interest to young Canadian boys, although in the last few years interest has grown with many more sports collectors showing more collecting interest in CFL memorabilia.
Pictured here are 5 of the 100 Nalleys Potato Chips round 3.5cm./1.4"
from 1964. The set only includes the 5 Western Canadian Teams with 20 coins per Team: British Columbia Lions (numbers 1-20), Calgary Stampeders (numbers 21-40), Edmonton Eskimos (numbers 41-60), Saskatchewan Roughriders (numbers 61-80), and Winnipeg Blue Bombers (81-100). The set features 18 Hall of Famers including Joe Kapp and Harold Bud Grant.
This was the second year CFL coins were introduced being inserted into bags of Nalleys Potato chips. The 1963 set was larger then the 1964 set as all 8 teams were included 20 coins per team. There were also plastic shields produced which could be ordered from the company. Many people didn't order the shields which only makes them very collectible today.
Jlmam, fortapache, Roy, vetraio50, Thomas thank you for stopping by always much appreciated.
were these your from back in the day? Canadian's do kinda like hockey ah ;D
I picked these up in my garage sales journeys PPb. I still have a few of my Shirriff Pudding hockey coins from my childhood and can't find the hockey cards I used to shoot holes in with my BB gun.
Likely only shot at the oldest and now most valued cards too I'll bet, I know my Mickey Mantle cards were used just to make a little noise in my spokes ;/
We never knew the value they would have today lol. It was fun back then.
If we had known that one card would buy a new BB gun we would have saved them too bad nobody explained it that way lol, but we didn't know or care about much of anything so it was worth it ah that was the life play eat and sleep
For sure PPb growing up in the 60's was great eat breakfast and head outside for the day just coming home for meals. Life was good:)
Always much appreciated Oroyoroy, Rick, PoliticalPinbacks when you drop by and share the loves. PPb your comments are always great!!
I love the string of comments here. It reminds me of how I wish I still had all the record albums from the '60s that my older brothers flung into the air using them for "skeet" shooting.
Buckethead I guess all the destruction to records, toys, hockey, baseball cards... is part of what makes the ones that survived in great condition so collectible today along with us growing up having money and wanting to buy back some of our childhood memories.
I remember these esp with the red backs. Loved to collect what came mostly in cereal back then, but loved potatoe chip collectables also !
Phil there were so many cereal premiums as a kid growing up along with the jello and potato chips coins. What money I earned from delivering newspapers and shining shoes what I didn't spend on aurora models I bought bags of chips and hockey card packs. Used to trade the piece of gum for cards.
Thomas 1967 is a great memory of Canada's Birthday celebrating 100 years it was a big event and every year after July 1st has always been shared with friends and family. This year was different being in Mexico during the celebration.
Manikin, Phil, TheGatekeeper, Scotty, buckethead, always much appreciated when you stop by and share the comments and loves.
