I love tatting, and had the opportunity to purchase this beautiful Webster Tatting shuttle. It's probably from the 1910's or so, although I don't know for sure. It's actually a great little shuttle to use because it is smooth, and the gaps are easy to wind. The point gets into the tiniest knot to quickly undo it when you make an error (I'm not a pro, haha). Plus, I frequently wear it as jewelry by sliding a chain through it. It makes it functional art! <3 It's a stunning little piece of history that I love and use.

Love it. I would love to own and silver tatting shuttle, but wondered whether the tarnish could blacken your thread.

@britinpa - It did a little when I first gently polished it, but I used a simple heavier cotton thread - almost like the stuff you'd tie a turkey up with - that soft stuff that'd let me create the knots but would also polish around the hook easily. The bobbin slides out from the center and the edges and inside walls polished up easily. If you find a silver one, go for it. They're not that hard to clean with a good silver polishing cloth. Just wipe it down if it sits for a while and do a quick line on that thicker cotton thread, and you're good to go.

Thanks for the info - I have been really tempted to get one, and regularly am on the look out
