Here I have a family artifact that I have not seen in some time, Dad's balance scale. Made by Schaar & Company Chicago, I think I see remnants of sticker that may have been to certify that it was weighing properly? Wood and Glass with a sliding front pane, total dimensions about 17" wide X 18" high X 9" deep.
So, I wiped it down with some hot water with just trace of dawn soap in it. The top is sticky, should I use goo gone? Is it ok to use my favorite cleaning concoction of white vinegar and water?
Besides being dusty, musty, and a bit sticky it seems to be in good condition Except for the Glass base that the actual balance is attached to... there is a crack, you see it in the last picture that goes right up under the bolt down. I wonder if that would make it unable to do it's job properly now? This will now be kept with Nan's Sewing machine, which I have had possession of for some time now.
Any information would be helpful, thank you for looking. Please bear with my forum etiquette I am new at this, and I enjoying learning about all this stuff. Thank you again.
