I'm not sure where I picked this up but it is odd. Colonial carved couple wooden picture. The wood is what is odd to me. It seems very hard, more like stone. Does anyone have an idea what kind of wood this might be, who the artist might be or an idea of how to date it? Any information would be helpful - since I know nothing about it. Thank you very much!
Looks more like pottery to me based on the back and the chips on the shoes of the lady. RER
It's plastic...

Thanks for the comments. After looking at it a bit more closely, it definately is wood of some kind. Maybe a layer of resin or even sawdust mixed with clay? I don't know what any of that would be called. I unscrewed the back screw holding the loop and it has fine wood fragments/shavings that emerged ...possible sawdust? The outer layer is so hard like petrified or resin but the inner layers are wood. Could it be what they call "wood resin" ? Does anyone know a general idea of age? Thanks again, I just can't seem to find any like it. T A where did you find that picture? Thanks again. Chrissy
They mixed ground walnut shells and resin and cast may decor item in the 1970's. The picture is from Pinterest, since it's 100% identical, that tells me it's a molded piece. Personally I would never identity something as wood that isn't just finished natural wood. I don't call particle board, wood, just as I don't consider ground walnut shells or sawdust and resin to be wood.
