When Mom passed this year, we found a box of my Grandmother's dog collectibles. All were wrapped in Miami newspaper dated 1963 so everything in the box we know is older than 1964 at least - all wrapped in same paper and since only 1 'layer' was used some were regrettably damaged).
Not an expert on dog breeds, nor collectibles. I found this site when I was looking for help in identifying vintage costume jewelry I inherited from both my Mother and Grandmother.
This 'salt and pepper' set made me laugh. The fire hydrant has a clasp dangling from it but I'm not sure why as to use them for salt and pepper to season your food, you wouldn't want to have to lift up a fire hydrant AND something else (like the dog). Both have 'cork' in their tummies &fire hydrant has a mark '52/548' (so 52nd out of 548 made?? - no clue)
I'm puzzled now...
I have the same set. When my aunt passed, I inherited her collection of 400 sets of salt and pepper shakers. You can check out my posts, if would like to see mine. I'm off to bed now. I will look in the morning to see if mine has a marking. I believe it does.
The chain from the fire hydrant is missing:

I checked my set. Unfortunately, mine only has "made in Japan" marked on the hydrant. Sorry!!
TimeTraveller - 400 salt and pepper shakers!!! It had to take FOREVER to go through those. I'll definitely be checking your posts.
Efesgirl - ok, so there really was a chain on the fire hydrant...I wasn't sure that would be very functional but I see it now. Thank you so much.
