A couple, few months ago, a dealer that I'm familiar with contacted me about liquidating his remaining Loetz inventory. One of the pieces is this very nice example of a Loetz, Rosewater Sprinkler vase, pattern #7637 circa 1898 - see "Lotz Bohmisches Glas" 1880-1940 Band 2, Page 35, Helmut RICKE et al. The base color glass is pale green with a brilliant, Creta Papillion oilspot finish that glows with a blue-green iridescence. This is a classic Loetz design and was actually designed to hold a single stem flower like a long stem rose. It stands 10 inches high and has three deep dimples in the bulbous base for added interest. As always, thanks for looking!

Thanks Bill... your comment popped up after I had already finished. I agree, the dimples add another layer of visual interest to the vase : )

I speculate that dimpkes and threads were utlitarian originally to aid in transporting a water vessel such as this.

I recently had someone make a glass tumbler for iced tea. I told him to make it as tall as possible. He said ok and he would finish it with an impression. What? He showed me a finished one and said see how that fits in your hand and the thumb impression gives a nice grip ?

Loetz - masterful. That bright green just makes the oil spot pop, it's fantastic Rick.
I think the indents are to show off the iridescence - the valleys break the light so beautifully.
      Great acquisition Rick!

I can't say what hasn't been said about this beautiful vase, so I'll just leave it at that, Rick, but my wife always asks what camera do you use to get these great photographs that you take. I know it's the whole thing, lighting, and background, but they are stunning photographs, that make your collection pieces show as they are in a museum of art. You always impress me Rick, GREAT job! :^)
I might add that you impress my wife too! :^D

Thanks so much for the love and great comments Bill, Karen and Mani, and thank you for the love Mike, Pat, BB2, Fort, Bijou, Jim, Bucket, Deb and NSN.

@Karen... That makes a lot more sense as I didn't think the dimples were for carrying a vase which normally sits on a shelf.

@Bill... Thank you to you and your wife, that's so kind of you guys. No special camera, but I did purchase a quality lens, and like you said, a backdrop and lights. What really made the difference, is making sure you have enough lighting. When I first started, Tony was a tremendous help teaching me about the correct settings and the importance of sufficient lighting. Your and your wife's comments are so kind and flattering... Thanks to both of you!

What a beauty! Looked at the close up, as usual, and it's even more amazing that way! Let me ask you, is the bottom of the vase rough or smooth? Just curious.
