just adding some more pictures here. The surface is alligatoring, or at least it looks that way. Not sure what it is. Thanks!

Monkey looks out of place, but intended probably. "the surface is alligatoring". So it is a painting ?

blunder, I AGREE!!! I thought the same thing....the perspective is off or something with that monkey. I really do think it is a painting. I used a jewelers loupe to inspect the surface. There is a thick, dry, crusty layer....old varnish? hard to make out brush marks to prove it though.

      Just not sure.

Looks like a more modern print in a very nice old frame.

The fresh canvas on the back and modern hanging hooks and wire also consistent with some modern reworking.

so...are you saying the print is glued onto fresh canvas? Thanks scott

another thing..... last night I was cleaning it with a Q-tip and a little bit of spit. It got pretty wet, if it was a print....ink on paper or canvas wouldn't it smudge or start to tear? It cleaned just like any other oil painting I've done that with.

hey guys, take a look at the pic I just added. It is the surface under high magnification.

We call this craquelé and looks to be real oil painting to me

Agram Yes! I happen to agree. But it looks like CW recategorized the entry in "PRINTS". I am not sure this case is solved yet!
