When my father moved to Texas in the early 1960s, he was appalled that Poll Taxes were still in place. A remnant of Jim Crow segregation, Poll Taxes were instituted in many Southern states in an effort to disenfranchise African-American voters. He saved the last poll tax receipt he received, and eventually framed it, as a reminder of how far we have (or haven't) come.
Very cool.
I remember those days.
