This is my latest find.
It is a very beautiful Chalet cranberry glass brides basket. I usually do not go for frilly things but this basket caught my eyes.
The ruby bowl is hand blown (the pontil on the bottom is ground out).
The bowl has a swirl pattern, ruffled rim and clear glass attached handle and bottom.
The clear glass handle and bottom have very interesting pattern. In addition, the handle has leaves on each end that are curled up.
The ruby bowl is 12”by 9”, and overall the basket is 14” tall.
It was made during the 1960's by the Chalet Artistic Co. in Canada.
Fusing solid gold with lead crystal made the subtle color that made Cranberry glass so unique. The technique is said to have originated with the Romans during the Roman Empire, but was lost until the Italian Renaissance brought back the technique.
I don't know Chalet glass well but I have never seen anything like this from them! It's such a lovely piece of Victoriana glass. Everything about it is lovely and beautifully made.
Thank you racer4four for your comment.
There is almost identical item being sold by VintageShopFinds (I think on Etsy). The only difference is size. My basket is bigger.
