Here's a fully-coloured postcard all done by hand of Pentwater, Michigan. Postmarked in 1918. Typical muted colours present on the earliest tinted photos, as they were just that-- tinted.
From the sky to the hills, the trees to the buildings, the river to the train.... everything was slowly and painstakingly tinted by hand.
While some areas were over-tinted, and there is some mess-up, this is typical of amateur tinted photos. You can't exactly erase. LOL.
And since this is the first photo I've brought from greyscale to colour, I think I did pretty well using a free editing program. LOL.
Not sure if I got any shades right, as unlike actually hand-tinted photographs, the artist made notes of colours and shades for most things. I've never been to Pentwater, so.... My representation.
I will likely do this again in the future, albeit it's slow and annoying work.
Wonderful!
Nice Job SpiritBear - I know I certainly wouldn't have the patience :)
Well done indeed, You should drive up there and maybe even find the spot, I think it's only 50 miles or so.
Thank you, Post Card Collector.
Buckethead, it all depends on your will to do it.
Political Pinbacks, my new friend I mentioned in email lives near there I think. He might know of it.
I cannot get the sky-colour, though. Not sure why? I've tried, but I never attain it.
Nice! I believe I have been thru Pentwater before.
Was it nice?
It was long ago and we only drove thru town. But what I remember it seemed pretty nice.
