This vase has been in my collection for some time, but I am still unable to conclusively identify it...my guess is that it is Victorian, despite the angular Art Deco like form. The Oriental - inspired design featuring a faux wax seal, a fan, sprays of cherry blossoms, & geometric patterns looks to me to fit in well with the Aesthetic Movement of the late 19th century.
The vase is made from milky opalescent glass, & has gilded highlights. It measures 21 cm tall, 11 cm across the top rim, & 10.5 cm across the base.
Judging by the crisp, & finely detailed mould, this vase was made by a manufacturer of high quality pressed glass, which makes my thoughts turn to British makers such as Sowerby, or Burtles & Tate.
I have never seen another one like it. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
