Hello everyone!!
Here we have an antique Austrian cold painted bronze figure which depicts a couple from the late 1800's era. It's made and designed by Moritz Spitz who opened, and owned, a bronze foundry in Austria from the late 1800's and into the first quarter of the 1900's. It's an extremely rare piece and I feel very lucky to be the new owner of this piece. This piece was purchased at an online auction from a Beverly Hills estate sale.
It's really very highly detailed in every way. This one is signed "MS" (Moritz Spitz) and is dated 96, which would be 1896. I've seen a lot of cold painted bronzes over the years, and I own several pieces, but this is the first of this design I've ever seen. I love their poses and the expressions on their faces. Most of the cold painted bronze pieces I own are by Franz Bergman. This is also the only Moritz Spitz cold painted bronze piece that I have in my collection. The figure measures 4.25" tall by 2.5" wide.
Thanks to all for stopping by and having a look!!

What an interesting bronze! Not a clue who the maker is....
Thanks Bonnie!! I have a copy of the Vienna Bronze reference book and it's not listed in there. However, to be fair about it, they mostly focus on Franz Bergman and Carl Kauba designs.
Nice detail on this piece!
Thanks buckethead!! Just wish I knew who the maker was.
It is interesting Scott.......not something I have seen before! Hope you can find the maker!
Thanks Judy!! I've had no luck in determining the maker yet.

I'm with you on this Scott, I've never seen these type of figures in an Austrian cold painted piece before. I'm used to seeing your typical Arab scene. Great find!
Rick,
Thanks! I wish it were a Franz Bergman Arabian scene, especially one with a magic carpet. But, I'll never be able to afford one of those at $$$$.
