Another item that spent decades in my father's desk..."The Spiral" notebook, No. 37. The name on the logo is hard to read but it turns out to be "Westab", a trademark of the Western Tablet Co of St Joseph, Missouri. Western Tablet Co was best known for years as the maker of the "Big Chief" tablets, but in the 1960s, their "Spiral" notebooks overtook the "Big Chief" tablets in popularity. The patents listed on the cover date back to the 1930s and are for various iterations of the spiral notebook design. Poking around online uncovered a variety of "Westab Spiral" products, including composition books, the "spiral mozart" music notation book, and the spiral scrap book. In addition to the Big Chief tablet, Westab apparently also made the "jewel" line of bound notebooks and assorted other school and office-related paper products.
This particular notebook is, for whatever reason, unused.
AWESOME.
