I have been watching with interest and admiration the photos NASA publish from their inter-planetary travels and this lovely work reminds me of some of those images.
This is by artist Chiyoji Asahara, of The Glass Studio in Otaru. It's not a large work at around 11cm diameter, but is so engaging.
A clear ball with brown in the base, hollow blown, and the a blue trail added. Flat ground base.
wonderful piece from the outer limits it appears Karen first class piece of art glass !!!!!!!!
It's heavenly Karen with a sense of motion...just like a real planet. :)
Soooo mesmerizing... one could look at it for hours and never get tired and always see more!
That is one really beautiful little piece Karen! Quite an eye catcher.
Absolutely stunning!

It's wonderful, so space age. You post such unusual glass, it's a pleasure to see.
Ah! I love this too. Glad it's not on my desk tho, I'd have to keep spinning it! Like my little cast iron rocking chairs, keep on a-rockin'!
Thanks Fran, that's a lovely thing to say!
Ta Sue, spinnin' and a rockin' on.
Very pretty Karen! Do you know if it was meant to look like a planet? Also, do you know what its purpose was?
I see that you know a lot about glass artists from Japan and overseas. I've got this fish that I swear is signed Makoto or Mahoto or maybe Mafoto? its in my posts with yellow, red and green stripes and mouth squared wide open. Its awesome but the signature is weird. Would you take a look for me?
Karen, this is fantastically hypnotic!
I too would spin it all day :-))
Hi Rick. I don't know if it was meant to look like a planet, and as far as I know it's a "thing". I have a number of glass "things", all different, and all very thingish.
Can't say more than that sorry!
Responded on post BigE.
